North Country Work Day

Living in the North Country, well, my parents
live in the North Country,
with a lot of trees, there are twigs and
branches that fall.  Before mowing,
all of those branches need to be picked up.

The Husband drove the Ranger while
Kidlet Three and his buddy ran alongside.
The boys picked up branches and tossed
them into the back of the Ranger.

Reeds from the lake had washed
onto the shore so the boys raked
and picked them up as well.

The Husband entertained us all
with his impression of a deer...or some
animal with antlers.
Kidlet Three and Daniel took
turns driving the Ranger.  I don't
think they could smile any bigger
as they drove.
My Dad is recovering from back surgery
so he walks cautiously to the wood pile.
The branches are dumped into
the big "burn pile".
Dad and I hoed the potato plants.
This is the first plot of potatoes.
Then the lawn mower came out.
And you'll see a better picture of
the burn pile.  We may get a bonfire
yet this weekend!
After mowing at the homestead, the
lawn mower was trailered to the
New Cabin property.  The Husband
and My Mom mowed.

A large amount of rain had fallen recently
plus with the heavy equipment used
in construction, the driveway was pretty
muddy and full of ruts.
The Husband encountered water in
the grass as he mowed.  In fact, he got
stuck twice and needed to be pushed out
once and the last time, evidence of his
encounter appeared on the mower and
The Husband's clothes.

It was a fun work day.
Amazingly fun!

New Cabin

My parents have purchased land in the Way North Country of our State.  There is a small cabin on the property but no running water into that cabin and it has one room.  And no bathroom.

This week a new cabin was started on the land.  This cabin will have running water, a bathroom and more than one room!  Here is a peek at our visit to the land Friday night.

The next 3 pictures are a panoramic view.
Looking to the right...
Looking straight back away from the cabin...
Looking to the left (the driveway is noted here)...
And then looking to the backside of the cabin.
This is a huge lot with lots of room for football,
tents, volleyball, etc!
From the front porch of the cabin, this is the view...the lake!
Beautiful!
The view from the front porch looking to the right...

Kidlet Three and his friend, Daniel, found this friend

I wish you could hear the silence.
And feel the peace.
While standing on the dock, this is the shoreline to the right...
Looking across the lake...
Looking up toward the cabin...

And the shoreline looking to the left.
This beaver popped up from the right shoreline and
swam right in front of us.  I didn't realize
how fast they could swim.

The family that had this land before my parents,
made trails through the woods and named
each trail.  Down by the lake is
the Old Road trail.
Here are some shots of the new construction

Amazing.
That God loves people so much that
He created the many shades of green, the ferns, flowers,
lake shore, beavers, and the silence.
All of it displays His beauty.
Amazing!

Do Not Disturb and A Confession

This was the Do Not Disturb sign at our hotel recently.

Doesn't it make you giggle?

Maybe I enjoy it so much because I am one of those
mothers that encouraged allowed my Kidlets to jump
on hotel beds.

If you've ever had a lumpy mattress at a hotel
it might be my fault.
I'm sorry....
The Kidlets and I might've been jumping on it
before you stayed there.

Back to the Do Not Disturb sign.
Take a good look at this woman's face.
Can't you just feel her joy and freedom?

My wish for you today is that you
would have a restful day.
That you could experience joy and freedom like this woman.

You may have to go jump on your bed!
I give you permission.

What Is It...

What is it about a candle
That can bring peace into a room?
 Is it just me
or do you feel peaceful
when a candle is glowing?
The stack of dishes in the sink
The supper that needs to be started
The experiences from the day
All seem less threatening when I light a candle.
God knew it was important when He said
"Let there be Light"
So what is it about candlelight?
God's Peace!

Biz Bag

Depending on your age, you may know what the two words "Biz Bag" mean.

Biz was a stain remover product from my growing up years.  There was even a laundry bag that could be purchased that was labeled BIZ BAG.

Commercials on TV for Biz would show a child with really bad grass stains and the mom would say:  Biz Bag...throw it in the Biz Bag.

The pants I'm showing below, from the first day of baseball practice, immediately went into the Biz Bag.

Did you catch the words FIRST DAY of baseball.

I wonder how many gallons of Biz I will be using for the upcoming baseball season.

I Live With an Osprey

Kidlet Three is on a traveling baseball team that was given the name "Raptors".  The boys didn't pick that name but was assigned it by the traveling association.

I know the boys wouldn't have picked "Raptors" as their name because I've overheard several of them debating as to just what a raptor is.  One boy was afraid the traveling association would pick a dinosaur as the picture of our team.  He went on to say he was afraid other teams would start calling the boys "Barney". See the boys are 14 and would just die with a purple dinosaur as their mascot!

Another boy was arguing that raptors were not dinosaurs but some sort of bird.

It has been fun to listen to these boys trying to figure out 'who they are' as a team.

So The Husband did some research and came up with a list of raptors.  He attended a practice and Coach gave him time during the practice to read characteristics of raptors and actual types of raptors.  As The Husband was reading this information one of the boys shouted out:

"hey, each of us should pick a raptor name and that is who we are"

With great excitement each boy picked a raptor name for themselves.

Thus, we have Kidlet Three the osprey living in our house.  From the names hawk, falcon, buzzard, etc, Kidlet Three picked the osprey.

This picture is from The National Geographic website.  I've decided I wouldn't argue about choosing the name osprey.  The talons look like enough of a weapon to keep me quiet for awhile.

As the team is getting ready for the first baseball game of the season, I don't know if we are supposed to cheer each boy by their given name or by "Hawk Cody" or "Buzzard Alex" or "Falcon Joey".  Using those raptor names just might be a good diversion for the opposing team!

Kidlet Three the Osprey!  I never would've thought I'd live with an osprey!
